Something for the Fellas: Man Bags

Who says guys are only allowed to carry wallets? Guys have lots of things to carry too, and sometimes that wallet, no matter how bulky, can’t fit everything. And regular books bags and knapsacks just don’t cut it anymore. That’s why today’s most fashionable guys carry “Murses,” or the man bag.

Rapper Bow Wow and Soccer star David Beckham have both been spotted with man bags. Uber producer Pharell has the man bag of all man bags, a purple Hermes Birkin. As a matter of fact, Pharell loves his man bag so much, he has TWO.

This trend is not lost on regular folks either. Last night at an event hosted by designer Keith Lissner, GuestofaGuest.com, and The Pink Agenda, O So Chic spotted several guys with man bags. Stylist Kareem Brantley rocked a Metropolis Vintage bag circa 1969/1970. We’ve seen him out and about in NYC several times and he’s had a different man bag each time!

Guys in the market for a man bag should opt for simpler styles. Bags in your basic black or brown or even beige work best. Stay away from bright colored bags, or bags with too many zippers and buckles. It is a man bag after all, not a purse.

Don’t know where to find a man bag? Many designers have released their own man bags in with their men’s wear collections.

1. Aldo, Malnate bag, $69.98 (aldoshoes.com), 2. Fossil, Noah Laptop Brief, $298 (fossil.com), 3. Dunhill, d-eight Single Document Case $398 (dunhill.com), 4. Marni, Shopping bag, $825 (marni.com), 5. Louis Vuitton, Damier Geant Canvas Cougar, $990 (eluxury.com), 6. Marc Jacobs, Fall Winter 08 Collection (marcjacobs.com)

Now that you know where to get your man bags, I’ve got one question. What’s IN your man bag?

I really don’t know about this one here. Don’t know if the “Man Bag” Trend will catch on? They are a little too big and purse like. I can’t see too many “Rap Guys” rocking a Man Bag in their video.
We will see what happen over the next several months, you never know?
