Summer Radiance

Share

Once summer debuted, hemlines were hiked up and layers of clothing were stripped away. If we can strip away layers of clothing, why not strip away layers of makeup? Maintaining fresh, crease-free makeup in the heat and humidity can be challenging. The heavy foundations, creasing eyeshadows and bleeding lipsticks can have you looking less than your best by the end of the day. Here are a few products that will keep you looking fresh and radiant in the summer!

Priming the Canvas

Priming your face before makeup application, diminishes oil, closes pores and mattifies the skin. This is the same for eye primer. It mattifies the eyelid and eyeshadows stay in place all day long. (Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer $36-42) (Mary Kay Signature Eye Primer $12) (Urban Decay Primer Potion $16)

Light, Sheer Coverage

Nothing is worse than feeling like your pores are clogged up with layers of foundation. If you can avoid the foundation step, more power to you. If you “need” foundation, opt for a Tinted Moisturizer with SPF. It gives the face light, sheer coverage while protecting the skin from sun damage. You can also make your own tinted moisturizer by mixing face moisturizer with your liquid or mineral foundation.
(Cover Girl Smoothers SPF15 Tinted Moisturizer $7) (Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF20 $42)

The Warmth of Bronzer

Sunny times call for a sunny glow. A light dusting of bronzer on the cheeks, forehead and bridge of the nose will give you a sun-kissed glow.
(Milani Sunset Duos – Blush & Bronzer $6) (Sephora Super Sheen Bronzing Mist $12)

Get Rid of Shine

Need to reapply makeup because of oily skin? With these oil-absorbing sheets, re-application isn’t necessary. Plus, they absorb oil without messing up your makeup. (E.L.F Shine Eraser $1) (Boscia Blotting Linens $10)

No More Raccoon Eyes

Instead of using liquid or creamy pencil liners, use a powder eyeshadow as eyeliner or a gel liner. The L’Oreal HIP and MAC gel liners do not budge or smudge! (L’Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner $11.99) (MAC Fluidline $15). Mascara is also a culprit when raccoon eyes appear. To prevent that, use a waterproof mascara (Great Lash Waterproof Mascara $5) (Max Factor 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash Mascara $6)

Pucker Up

Put the lipsticks away and try a light colored gloss. This will give you the perfect amount of color and sheen needed to match your glowy, radiant, summer skin. (Lola Lip Indulgence $16) (Tarte double-ended glosses $19)
