Gear up all of your “Energy“, because this Fall, singer/songwriter Keri Hilson releases her debut album, In a Perfect World. After writing and producing hits for some of today’s biggest artists, Ms. Hilson is ready to put down her pen, grab the mic and step into the spotlight as a performing artist.
The 24 year old Atlanta native has been in the industry for years. After meeting with another Atlanta native – producer Polow da Don – Keri began her work behind the scenes. She’s written songs for some of today’s biggest artists – Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, and Ciara – just to name a few. Eventually, Polow Da Don introduced Keri to super producer Timbaland and she became a protegee to the beat master. The rest as they say, is history.
She has two songs on uber-producer Timbaland’s album Shock Value, one of which was the mega hit “The Way I Are.” She is featured on the song “After Love” on Diddy’s Press Play and “Superhuman” with Chris Brown. What better time to make the transition from writer to singer? In April, Keri was awarded three ASCAP awards for her writing capability, solidifying her prowess with the pen. And 2008 seems to be the year to make that change. Def Jam recording artist Ne-Yo has proved that there can be success in writing and performing, and another writer Jazmine Sullivan, is seeing success with her debut single “Need U Bad.”
This Summer, Keri released her the first single from her forthcoming album. The song, a ballad called “Energy,” quickly became a favorite on music countdowns across the country. Blender magazine named Energy the number one song in the Blender Bible for August.

As the buzz around her album builds, Keri has been making her rounds, co-hosting an the BET Awards after-show with Diddy, and an episode of 106 & Park. She also played Usher’s love interest in the “Love in this Club” video. Keri was named one of Vibe magazine’s Next Artists on the Verge and graced the covers of Fader, Rap-Up, and most recently Trace.
