Fashion Rocks: Where Fashion & Music Unite

The 5th Annual Fashion Rocks aired on Tuesday night. The Condé Nast production was taped last Friday in NYC in conjunction with the official start of New York Fashion Week. This was not just any old music show. Pop stars – from Country to R&B – performed for a sold out crowd at Radio City Music Hall. Stars like Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock & the Pussycat Dolls captivated audiences with their soul-stirring performances.

Fashion Rocks was a night of tributes for musical icons & legends as well. Beyonce – back from her spotlight hiatus – performed Marvin Gaye’s “Aint Nothing Like The Real Thing” alongside Justin Timberlake. Beyonce – who will play Etta James in the biopic “Cadillac Blues” performed the legendary blues singer’s “At Last.” Rihanna’s cover of Madonna’s “Vogue” began with a runway of models – a performance that highlighted what Condé Nast President Beckman called the “intersection of two of the most sexy cultural paradigms; fashion and music.”

Not only did fashion & music unite during Fashion Rocks, but charity did as well. The proceeds of the special benefited Stand Up To Cancer, a “groundbreaking movement” created by the Entertainment Industry Foundation to raise funds for cancer research. 14 pop stars – including, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige & Miley Cyrus – lent their vocals to the “Just Stand Up” song. The LaFace (L.A. Reid & Babyface) produced record was performed live during the “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon last Friday.
