Romantic Ruffles

Although it may not feel like it, spring started on Friday. With spring comes extended hours of sunlight, spring cleaning and of course, a spring wardrobe. Ruffled pieces are great for any woman’s closet and during spring in particular. They are flirty, über feminine and have a “sugar & spice and everything nice” quality. Sometimes, people hear “ruffles” and automatically think “froufrou cupcake.” Ruffled clothing however, ranges from the slight ripple, to the aforementioned cupcake extreme. Ruffles can be a a little, frilly detail on a button shirt or serve as the focal point of a cocktail dress.

From blouses, to tiered skirts and asymmetrical dresses, Spring 2009 Fashion Week runways were filled with ruffles, and appropriately so. The ruffle detail gave each piece a whimsical and undeniably feminine touch.
