Chic Trends: Draping

Many grecian goddess inspired draped dresses made their way down the runways during the Spring/Summer 2009 fashion shows. The art of adding loose folds to clothing, draping is a fabulous style element and a popular trend this season.

Now that the season has arrived, draped designs are making their way to the red carpet. Supermodel Kate Moss was eye-catching in a gold goddess Marc Jacobs dress and turban at the 2009 Costume Institute gala at the Met. Model Karolina Kurkova and actress/designer Ashley Olsen’s outfits for the annual gala also included elements of draping. Kurkova’s black dress draped from just beneath the bust, to the hemline, while Olsen’s outfit from her own label, The Row, draped in the back for a sexy, plunging effect.

Whether you plan to attend a barbecue, beach party or block party this Spring and Summer, draped pieces are available in many styles – from evening dresses, to jumpsuits, and even tank tops – for you to try out.
