If you love trying different foods, sharing your meal with friends, and don’t mind the loud hum of patrons or communal seating, you should visit Boqueria, a tapas style restaurant with locations in Soho and Flatiron.
Customers can order several small plates to make up a full meal, this way everyone gets a taste of everything. While there are a good selection of vegetarian-approved dishes and fish plates, the tapas menu is chock full of homemade sausages, pork, and ham dishes, so if you don’t eat pork, you may find your tapas selections a bit limited. However the restaurant also has a great cheese menu, larger plates, coffee and wine list.
An instant tapas favorite was the Dátiles Con Béicon – skewer of three dates stuffed with almonds and Valdeon cheese, wrapped in bacon. The sweetness of the date mingled with the salty bacon was a delectable surprise for the tastebuds, and the white wine peach sangria was a refreshing accompaniment to the meal. Other favorites were the comforting Lentejas Trufadas (truffled puy lentils with poached free range egg and serrano ham crisp) and the Pintxos Morunos (seared lamb marinated in lemon and cumin, with salsa verde). End your meal with a sweet treat from the dessert menu, such as the churros with warm chocolate dipping sauce.
Have each person in your party commit to choosing at least one different dish to get the best tasting experience. The communal table in the center of the restaurant and the small plates selections makes this a good spot to go with close friends and family members, whom you won’t mind sharing good conversation, great wine, and your food with.
