The 61st Emmy Awards Red Carpet Fashions

Last night, television’s brightest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre for the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Overall, most of the red-carpet looks went from underwhelming to down right ugly – save for some hits from the Gossip Girls, a Mad (wo)Man, an American Idol, and a few others.

The top looks of the night go to Queen B. herself, Leighton Meester, and her on-screen BFF, Blake Lively. Meester went glam in a modern take on a toga from Bottega Veneta. Her blood red lips and clutch served as bright pop of color against the white dress. In contrast to Meester’s virginal white ensemble, Lively played the part of the evening’s seductress in a scarlet Versace number with a plunging neck, thigh-high slit, and cut out  back.

Versace had another hit on the red carpet from January Jones. The ‘Mad Men’ star looked stunning in a snow colored gown with a sweetheart neckline. The patterned bodice, which flared at the hips, was a very daring silhouette – and it payed off.  Jones’ dress instantly stood out amongst the more traditional red carpet garb that many of her industry colleagues wore. Also in white was American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, who looked very elegant in her floor length choice.

Red and white weren’t the only colors worn on the red carpet. Best Supporting Actress winner Kristin Chenoweth forwent the long gown and opted, instead, for a mirrored mini by Zuhair Murad. ‘Big Love’  star Ginnifer Goodwin dazzled in a strapless purple YSL creation, as did ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ Sandra Oh in a fitted, gold Marchesa.

Oh’s former co-star, ‘Private Practice’s’ Kate Walsh, wore a strapless, pale gray J. Mendel gown and Louboutin shoes. Keeping in mind the financial times, Walsh carried an affordable clutch from Aldo. A combo of high and low end fashion? Definitely chic!
