Fashion's Night Out

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 Leave a Comment

If Fashion Week is the Superbowl of the fashion industry, then Fashion's Night Out is the kickoff party. On September 10th, fashion's heavy hitters will host the biggest party the industry has ever seen in cities across the world.

In New York City stores will remain open until 11 p.m., celebrities and designers will be on hand offering style tips, food and drinks will be served, and musical performances will take place. Unlike Fashion Week, there are no invitations and no need to RSVP for Fashions Night Out. All you need to do is show up, shop, and have a good time.

In addition to promoting consumerism and giving a boost to the fashion industry, the night is also an opportunity to give back. You can donate new and gently used clothing at specific locations. Your items will be given to the NYC Aids Fund. You can also shop for a worthy cause. 40 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the specially commissioned Fashion's Night Out T-shirt will benefit the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. Talk about guilt free shopping!

Here are a few of the events I'd go to if I could be in two places at once and could move at the speed of light (and if I didn't have to work. I'll be working the night shift at nymag.com making sure the best pictures from Fashions Night Out and Fashion Week are up on the web. Be sure to check out nymag.com/fashion for the latest fashion week pictures- can't have my sleepless nights and hard work be for nothing):

Catch model Tyson Beckford as he rides up to the party on his motorcycle. Be sure to checkout Bellhaus-on-Bond where the Vogue Alumni House will sell their items at the Hamptons' store pop-up shop.

THE Fashion Editor presents a Vogue Boutique at the Queens Macy's along with "top American designer" Michael Kors. The presentation will also feature a performance by the cast of the Broadway musical "Hair."

You've seen his fabulous legs traipse up and down the runway on America's Next Top Model, now's our chance to get a lesson on ripping the runway from "runway diva extraordinaire" Jay Alexander. Receive styling tups from H&M stylists then pose for the cameras. Pictures will be projected on a billboard in the Meatpacking District.

Just about everyone is making a stop at Bergdorf's for Fashion's Night out. Stop by for a chance to get your Fashion's Night Out shirt signed by Manolo Blahnik, Narcisco Rodriguez and Victoria Beckham and watch as Andre Leon Talley hosts the Fashion Rules games. Robert Verdi, Donna Karan and Linda Fargo are team leaders.

Teen Vogue takes over Bleecker and Perry streets for a party, runway show, and special performance by Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen.

Like your beer served by a model tending bar at a pub with sawdust covered floors? Well Rag & Bone is here to serve. The store will be converted to an Irish Pub for the night and model Jessica Stam will serve the drinks.

Friends of the Howard Street store will be treated to a block party with appearances by Proenza Schouler's Jack McCoullough and Lazaro Hernandez, Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy, Boy/Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg, Alexander Wang and Delfina Delettrez Fendi.

Get a sneak preview of Christian Siriano's shoe collection for Payless and style tips from Sex and the City's stylist Patricia Field. Fierce!

Fashion's Night Out customers get first dibs on Jade, the newest color in the Chanel Le Vernis collection. Enjoy a mini-manicure with your purchase.
