Tickets to see the Fall 2010 Oscar de la Renta, BCBG Max Azria, Tracy Reese and Rebecca Taylor shows during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week; a trip to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans; backstage passes and tickets to see Bye, Bye, Birdie on Broadway; designer handbags and shoes, and more were all up for grabs at the silent auction that kicked off Fashion for Action 2009.

O So Chic was in attendance as some of the city’s most fashionable people met and mingled, nibbled on hors d’oeuvres and sipped cocktails, provided by The Works Catering, placed bids in the silent auction and celebrated a great cause. O So Chic’s cocktail of choice? Prosseco and ginger ale, a light drink concocted by one of the fabulous bartenders. Potent enough to whet our taste buds yet light enough to spare us from unwanted after effects the next morning.

Sponsored by Essence Magazine and Gilt Groupe and co-chaired by Derek Lam, the annual Housing Works charity event began last night with a party at New York’s Rubin Museum of Art for people who bought $100 tickets to the VIP shopping preview. They got first dibs on items donated by fashion designers and fashion houses, from Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Diane von Furstenberg to Ralph Lauren, Rogan, and Theory, at 50%-70% off retail prices.  The proceeds will be put towards continuing Housing Works’ effort to provide room and board, medical attention, job training, and more life saving efforts to New York City’s homeless and low income residents with HIV and AIDS.

The sale goes public today at Housing Works’ Chelsea location. (It’s free!) Get your hands on a fabulous handbag or evening gown, and even a sequin vest a la Rachel Zoe. The designer wares are expected to sell out quickly, so hurry up and get down to the store to get your hands on designer duds and to contribute to a great cause.

Where: Chelsea Thrift Shop
143 West 17th Street
When: Friday, November 20, 2009 – Sunday, November 22, 2009
