Fashion Week | Vena Cava Fall 2010: The Chicest Cabin Wear Ever

At first glance, the peach colored circles placed on each seat at the Vena Cava show looked like dinner mints, which may explain why some scooped them up before all the seats were claimed. However, they peach objects were not mints, they were earplugs. An unusual gift for Fashion Week, but the Vena Cava team had a party planned for their runway show – the earplugs were there for the people who couldn’t hang.

The all-girl band The Like performed as designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayer presented the Fall 2010 Vena Cava collection at MAC at MILK – cabin wear inspired by the 1970s. Denim and hiking boots may come to mind when you think of cabin wear, but the collection was full of high-waisted wool shorts, a silk halter-neck jumpsuit, wool cloaks, and cocktail dresses in blacks, grays, and mossy greens. Fur collars or fishnet stockings completed many of the looks.

The design duo stuck to “a rainy day color palette” for the clothes, but hair and makeup was full of bright colors. The models wore bold red lips and their hair was pulled back into a low ponytails, each dressed up with neon pink, purple, or green extensions.

The design duo may have had a woman at her upstate retreat in mind when they designed the collection, but Vena Cava’s Fall 2010 show was similar to Carrie Bradshaw at Aidan Shaw’s country house – all dressed up and ready to go back to her beloved city.
