Jenny Packham | Spring 2011

I almost missed Jenny Packham’s first show at New York Fashion Week. The British designer presented her collection at 9 AM (an ungodly hour during fashion week), in the Studio at Lincoln Center. Boy, am I glad I made it!
The Central St. Martin’s graduate was behind the beautiful gold gown that Miley Cyrus wore to the 2010 Oscars. The teen star made my best dressed list and Packham’s debut New York collection was filled with red carpet worthy looks.
The designer cites “debutante balls and magical moonlight parties for exquisite youth” as her inspiration for the thirty-five look collection. While the overall aesthetic – heavy beading, plunging necklines, handpainted designs and fabrics that whip about in the wind – could be described as “pretty,” the standout pieces were the long gowns made of tulle and silk french chiffon.
The collection is sure to be a go-to for young stars during award season.
