Grammy Awards 2011 | Red Carpet Recap

Lady Gaga arrived in an egg

Of all the award shows, the Grammy’s are the place to take red carpet risks. That would explain why the looks on the 2011 Grammy awards red carpet were the epitome of “the good, the bad and the ugly.”

The award for the bad goes to Lady Gaga who arrived enclosed in an egg. I thought it was very gimmicky but I figured she’d redeem herself when the egg hatched. I was disappointed. I’ve come to the conclusion that she couldn’t find an outfit to top last year’s solar system inspired Armani Prive creation, so she decided not to wear an outfit at all.

Nicki Minaj in Givenchy and Katy Perry in Armani

The award for the ugly goes to Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. Nicki went over the top in a leopard print Givenchy dress with matching leggings and hair. Katy Perry added wings to her Armani boustier and skirt. Did their Grammy invitations come with a note for jungle attire?

Now, to the good stuff.

Rihanna in Jean Paul Gaultier

When Rihanna first came on screen my first thought was “can you wear panties under a dress like that?” The question of underwear aside, the Bajan songstress gets my vote for best dressed hands down. The Jean Paul Gaultier number looked like endless garter belts connected by a layer of sheer mesh. It clung to her body and fit like a dream.

Kelly Osbourne in Tadashi Shoji and Jennifer Hudson in Versace

Kelly Osbourne looked cute as a button in a lavender Tadashi Shoji dress and Alexander McQueen shoes. The newly svelte Jennifer Hudson was phenomenal in flowy blue Versace dress with just a hint of a black lace bra peeking out at the bust line.

Selena Gomez in J. Mendel and Lea Michele in Pucci

Teen star Selena Gomez looked beautiful in J. Mendel. I suspect this dress will be the inspiration for many a teen girl’s prom dress this year. My last pick is “Glee” star Lea Michele. I loved the plunging neck Pucci with the platform pumps and the chuncky bracelet. Giuliana Rancic gets an honorable mention for the Ashi number she wore during the E! red carpet show. I loved the look but couldn’t find a picture by the time I published this post.

That’s it for this red carpet review. Who gets your votes for best and worst dressed at the Grammys?
