My friends and I have been trying to plan a cruise for the last couple of weeks. Figuring out where to go, which port to fly to and working out people’s schedules turned out to be the biggest hassle, and now we aren’t even going anymore. Luckily, I don’t need to get on a cruise ship, or leave my borough, to have a decent getaway with the girls. All I have to do is take a trip to Body by Brooklyn, a sprawling all-day spa and oasis in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn.

Last weekend I took a trip to Body by Brooklyn with my friend Stephanie. Our Swedish massages were scheduled for 2:15, but since it was Stephanie’s first time at the spa, we wanted to get there early. We arrived at 1:30 and hit the fully stocked bar for a drink after we’d changed into our swimsuits and robes. For $95 we not only got massages, but an all day pass to the Wet Lounge, which is what separates Body by Brooklyn from the typical in-and-out day spas in New York.

Stephanie loves mojitos so she was very happy to find that they served strawberry-mango mojitos at the spa. Yum! We hung out at the bar, sipped the minty goodness and caught up with each other until it was time to get our massages.

My massage therapist, Karen, was great. She checked in periodically to make sure the pressure she applied was fine with me, and other than that she let me enjoy the soothing music that played as she did her work. That was perfect because I wasn’t in the mood for conversation. The hour flew by and when I was done, I went back to the locker room for a quick shower before going into the wet lounge.

Steph and I chose to take the wet lounge relaxation trek, which means we spent a few minutes in the hot tub, then went into the steam room. It was my first time in the steam room.  It was so steamy! Next we went to the sauna. We did that rotation a bunch of times, pausing occasionally to lounge “pool side” in the reclining chairs where we sipped lemon water and read Vogue. Then, we went back out to the bar, this time getting pina colada mojitos. Sweet!

Brunch is served on weekends, but neither of us were hungry so after we finished our drinks we went back into wet lounge. I took a cold plunge to cool off after our last trip to the steam room. It was freezing, but I felt refreshed.

It wasn’t until someone asked the time that we realized it was already 6:30. Where did the day go? We went back to the locker room to shower and lathered on some of the amazing peppermint lotion that was laid out (there were also q-tips, alcohol, hair spray and razors provided for our use) before heading out.

The open wet lounge space makes Body by Brooklyn a great place for a group spa day. Steph and I split up for our massages (there are couples rooms available too) but other than that, we got to hang out and catch up with each other in the wet lounge for the rest of the day. Turns out, you don’t need a plane ticket, or a cruise ship to have a girl’s getaway, you just need to take a trip to Body by BK.

I still can’t believe we spent five hours there, but I guess time flies when you’re lounging around! Going to the spa and going to brunch are two of my favorite ways to spend the weekend, and I’m looking forward to doing both at Body by Brooklyn. In the words of the Terminator, “I’ll be back.”

Body by Brooklyn will be holding Customer Appreciation Week from March 21-25 and April 11-15th. Go on your own, or with a group of friends. 45 minute Swedish massages and calming facials will be $60 each! Mention the code RS100 to take advantage of the deal.

***Our strawberry-mango mojitos were provided free of charge. However, I did honestly enjoy my day at Body by Brooklyn and the complimentary cocktail in no way influenced this review.***
