Oscars 2011 | Red Carpet Recap

Anne Hathaway in Valentino, Sharon Stone in Christian Dior, Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang, Jennifer Hudson in Versace

The grand daddy of all red carpet events, the Oscars, was held on Sunday and there was lots of glitz and glamour. I had so many favorites this year that I cannot choose one best dresses. However, there were quite a few “what the hell was she thinking” moments too.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein, Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture, Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein, Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

I like to end things on a good note so we’ll start with the bad stuff first. Two of my least favorite looks came from Calvin Klein. Gwyneth Paltrow’s shimmery dress reminded me of the Oscar statue and Jennifer Lawrence’s red halter gown was a little too casual. She could easily have worn that with a pair of flip flops to go shopping. I cannot wrap my head around Nicole Kidman’s Dior Couture monstrosity. It looked more like a kindergartener’s arts and crafts project than an expensive evening gown. Finally, Scarlett Johansson’s look did not work at all. Her was sloppy and the dress looked like a bunch of doilies.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab, Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere, Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier, Halle Berry in Marchesa

Thankfully, the good looks outnumbered the bad this year. Mila Kunis looked lovely in a lavender lace Elie Saab. I was worried that her boobs might fall out of the top but they didn’t. Thank goodness for fine tailoring! Hilary Swank sparkled in Gucci Premiere and Mandy Moore was a true show stopper in Monique Lhuillier. I still cannot believe little Mandy, who was dancing around in a parking lot signing about missing a boy like candy just a few years ago, has grown up so much. The whole look was perfect from the gown, to the pulled back hair and orange lips to the large Chopard earrings. Of course, this recap would not be complete without a mention of Halle Berry who can do no wrong in my book. She looked phenomenal in a nude, strapless, Marchesa.

That’s it for award season. Who gets your vote for best dressed?
