After spending the last few months juggling a full time job and going to school part-time, I am looking forward to relaxing and actually enjoying life this summer. I’m trading my textbooks for bathing suits and I already have a few things planned.
In June, I will take a weekend trip to Connecticut to visit one of my friends from college. I love visiting her because her because her suburban life is so different from the life I lead in New York City. She has a large house (I can probably fit my entire apartment into her kitchen) with a big back yard where she’s going to host a cookout. I know the food and drinks will be delicious and she’s planning to end the night with a movie projected onto a sheet that she will hang on the side of her house. It’s called a walk-in movie which she said to think of as a drive-in movie theater without the cars. FYI, I didn’t know drive-in movies actually existed until she took me to one during of my last trips to Connecticut.
I celebrated the end of my school exams by booking a trip to Mexico. In July, I will spend a week at an all-inclusive resort on the Riviera Maya. I’m going to gorge myself on the all-you-can-eat cuisine and cocktails. If and when I manage to tear myself away from the buffet table, I’ll probably spend the rest of the time lounging on the private beach or at one of the nine pools. I’m sure I’ll be good friends with the bartenders at the swim up bar by the end of the week. I’ve promised myself not spend the entire week eating and drinking – The Mayan ruins, snorkeling and windsurfing are also on my to-do list and my travel buddy will make sure I check a few things off.
Before any of those trips, I’m going to kick off my summer right here in New York City at Smirnoff’s Stir Up Your Summer event. Stir Up Your Summer will take place at TENOVERTEN nail salon in TriBeCa on May 21st. The hosts promise manicures, sushi and Smirnoff Sorbet Light cocktails, oh my! I’m really looking forward to this because love getting my nails done and with the exception of the DIY-mani I gave myself a few weeks ago, they have not seen a bit of polish in a few months. Adding sorbet flavored cocktails to the manicure experience will make it absolutely fabulous. I’ll post a recap of the event right here so make sure you check for it next week.
Food, friends, travel, manicures and cocktails are a recipe for a good time and the next few months will be just that. What are your plans for the Summer of 2013?
